For the past three Sundays, members of the Baton Rouge community have gathered under the North Boulevard bridge to provide a hot meal and new clothes for those in need. I was first made aware of this effort through Instagram. Effum Underground owner Kirk Boutte has been keeping his followers informed of how to help.
Organizers of the event are accepting any form of donations or products including to-go plates, utensils (prepackaged preferred), pre-boiled rice, canned sweet corn, canned green beans, aluminum pans, snacks (honey buns, chips, cookies, etc.), fruit (bananas, oranges, apples), hotdogs, hotdog buns, seasonings, beverages, as well as clean underclothes, clothes and shoes for all ages.
Feel free to drop off any donations at Effum Underground, located at 10760 Florida Blvd., behind Popeye's or Big Baby's Carwash on Government Street by the railroad tracks. If you can't make it to one of those locations, contact @br_cowboy, @thevcurtis, @dj_kicks, @1stlady_singleton, @cloud2_aon or @garychambersjr via Instagram.
